I think if they’re gonna do any sort of ‘build a buff’ talent choices, tigers fury would be the one to address, and they could add new mechanics and then have them in choice nodes if needed. Zerk could then be further tweaked if needed to do stuff like just allow finisher spam, or give a different interaction with builders. Given the bloodtalons playstyle already in effect, this could be made a baseline mechanic to apply a buff to what are currently finishers and allow more flexibility in the spec design. It’s a variant on afflictions MR playstyle.Īlternatively I think there’s a strong argument to be made for getting rid of combo points entirely for the spec. This would be easy to balance as cleave abilities would apply less of this debuff, it’s intuitive to play as you want to get your big bleeds on then buff them, and you c an shift the bonus dmg from bite to instead more stacks of the bleed. I think an easy one would be for bite and the various other abilities to apply stacks of a debuff or something to apply bonus dmg when bleeds like rip tick. There’s ways they can shift dmg back to dots while keeping cleave in check. Nobody wants to spent that much effort for a mediocre 3 min cooldown.Įdit, TLDR: We fell behind designwise, our toolkit just no longer works in the current design and the DF talent tree changes nothing about this. It is just current feral awkwardly split up into randomly distributed nodes and the three (4 with incarn) berserk talents are the peak of lacking creativity. The current talent tree in the meantime tackles none of those issues. Those ways to play also shouldn't overlap too much (sabretooth.). We need an alternative to play dot focussed, as you mentioned in the bleed vs bite part.

Think something like taste of blood just in more significant, ideally synergistic with snapshotting. We need a dot interaction similar to other specs (IF they want to keep a dot focus), that our toolkit makes sense again. This feels horrible and blizzard absolutely needs to work around this. So our damage in the end doesn't come from what we want to do, but rather from our old combo point dump: Ferocious bite. We still have our tookit designed around something that ultimatively is nerfed more and more by blizzard. So where leaves this ferals that haven't gotten such a redesign yet? We go twice the distance with snapshotting to build up and maintain dots that no longer can be the main source of our damage. It's hard to balance specs that can do more or less the same damage to multiple targets in a council fight than to a single target boss, so blizz "warps" the toolkits around mechanics that funnel damage otherwise, and uses dots a generators or combo to setup those spenders. That's why shadow priest spend with DP, affliction with malefic rapture, boomies with starfall and surge. They don't want dots to be a main source of damage for balance reasons.

Snapshotting, and with it the better part of our toolkit, doesn't fit in the game anymore.īefore you downvote me to oblivions because it's our only unique gimmick, just consider that blizz steadily removes raw throughput from dots. There's also a fundamental issue that directly works against our toolkit. Why didn't they even bring that one back? This would've been the minmal effort way to excite feral mains at least a little. I mean we already had fun artifact traits, shadow thrash, ashamanes protection, ashamanes bite for the double-rip. We're just a weird cat.Įven if we stick to that rather unexciting fantasy we also neither got anything new or even old in the current iteration of talents. What are we exactly? Feral does not fulfill the fantasy of a versatile spellcaster that shapeshifts for close combat. We are behind balance in utility (and hence, viability in m+), specially as they got stamp roar now but we didn't get treants. We never will get fun stealth interactions because that's rogue territory. We need something new, both toolkit and fantasywise.

I don't want to bash our toolkit but we're playing a dated version of a sin rogue that occasionally casts regrowth, and for some reason blizz sticks to this either for nostalgia reasons or simply a lack of attributed dev time because there's just a hand full of feral mains (left) and we're not worth the time. The game evolved a lot, specifically over the last three expansions, but we didn't. I am very bothered with the complete standstill we have designwise for too long now. I really appreciated the write-up and agree with a lot what you said but in the end I think DF is the expansion where I'll drop my feral after playing him for so long if blizzard doesn't surprisingly drop a complete new iteration of our talents.
